Hello!

My name is Beatriz Pimenta Medas. I’m a third-year design student at Carnegie Mellon University. I was born in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, and raised in Northern Virginia.

I have a wide range of interests that I bring into my design practice. In fact, my background of art and expressive mark making forms the groundwork of my practice. As you can begin to imagine from my portfolio pieces, I am passionate about form, industrial design, graphic design, and filmmaking and the interplay of visuals, timing, and sound.

My design practice is driven by the desire to create objects that are meaningful, and worth the life cycle they’ll live on this planet. As a visual designer, I am amazed by the beauty present in our world--the colors, the light, the sounds and the feeling of it all working together. I desire to capture just a small piece of that beauty in everything I create.

I want to create meaningful, high quality objects, that are worthy of the people that want or need them. I believe that the care I put into the world is reflected back two or threefold, and this world needs more careful creation. I am an expressive artist at heart, and every mark I put on a surface is a choice, it informs the next mark, and it has meaning in it. I carry that same responsibility into my design practice.

Currently, I’m designing a knee brace for hypermobile people, to help them be as active as they desire.
